Hubba Bubba is a 17 pound, 3 year old, Maltese mix. He is mostly white with a light tan saddle that goes up part of his tail that then has a beutiful white plume. He has some light tan on his ears that are then tipped in black. His coat had to be shaved but it now feels like a soft plush stuffed animal. They were able to save his big fluffy head. His coat could be grown out again or kept in the puppy coat. Either way he is one strikingly good looking dog!
He is does well with his house manners IF I take and go out with him. If I don't he does have accidents. He is not a marker in fact he still does the puppy squat. He can use a doggie door but does not want to go out without me. He jumps for joy when I return home!
I do not have a cat but when I cat tested him with my friend's cats he paid them no attention nor did they him. They seemed very comfortable with his energy which was laid back.
He integrated quickly into my 7 pack which includes 6 middled aged and senior Chinese Cresteds, 7-17 pounders, male and female, as well as my 55 pound, year old Pitbull puppy girl. He has started to play with the big girl and has been good about leaving the little guys alone. He has a high bark that he uses when playing. He has not shown any guarding of my lap, toys, treats or food.
This is a shy guy. He is not comfortable meeting strangers whether kid or adult. Though he did not show any agression when meeting my 3 grandsons ages 1-5 year olds, he basically hid by my feet and fell asleep under the table.
He is a great walker, easily walking 4 miles and asking for more. He is fine passing other dogs and people preferring to stand behind me and letting the puppy get the pets.
He loves going for car rides. Though he is not a big fan of his crate once he is put in it he will lay down and be quiet.
In another home he met and bonded and claimed the mom as his own. When the dad returned home to meet Bubba after a week of being away he did charge the dad when he tried to come to bed with them. Here he met and accpeted both my husband and me at the same time. Though he has bonded stronger to me he also sees my husband as a pack leader. After being away for a couple of days, when he returned Bubba accepted him back into the pack. He is still very shy around him but has shown no agression. My adult son visited over night and Bubba spent a lot of time barking at him. He will make a good watch dog!
So here are my thoughts on the right home for Bubba. He needs a quieter home without children. He will attach to one person strongly and will be a velcro dog. He can love more than one person. It will be important that he sees all family members as united pack leaders. Any time he pushes those boundries he will need to be shown his place in the pack. He can be happy as an only dog or can share and live happily with other family dogs or cats. He does enjoy walking and I would like to see that continue.
